Three volunteer firefighters sustained minor injuries working a Fort Lee apartment complex blaze Thursday evening, Mayor Mark Sokolich told NBC New York.

All residents made it out of the building safely, according to the apartment building's office manager Angelica Nazario.

Smoke could be seen billowing out the top of the building from miles away as flames shot out through windows. Traffic piled up on local streets.

The cause remained under investigation as of 8:30 p.m.
